      About Lyon

Lyon, also known as the city of lights, is a city in France that is definitely worth a visit! It is a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its historical and architectural landmarks. Visiting Lyon in December? Well you’re in luck. The city is well-known for the four-day, annually on December 8th, “Fête des Lumières,” which has earned Lyon the title of Capital of Lights.

Are you a foodie? Well you’re in luck! Due in large part to the presence of many of France’s top chefs in the city and its surroundings, Lyon has long been regarded as the nation’s culinary capital. It is the home of very typical and traditional restaurants serving local dishes, and local wines. Some local Lyon’s specialities include: la salade Lyonnaise, le pâté en croûte, la saucisson brioché and many more – you will have to go check them out for yourself.

Did you know that Lyon has a significant role in the history of cinema? Auguste and Louis lumière invented the cinematographer in Lyon. They made history with the first projected film on March 22nd 1895 for approximately 200 members of the “Society for the Development of the National Industry.” Following this, they held the first public screening on December 28th 1895 for 40 customers – this has been viewed as the birth of cinema.

The largest Renaissance district in Europe is located in Old Lyon, a small section along the Saône’s right bank. Its current layout, which consists primarily of narrow alleys running parallel to the river, was established in the Middle Ages. The traboules are a recurring design element in Lyon’s historic structures. They are passageways that cross a building and, frequently, a courtyard to connect two streets. Many traboules are exceptional architectural works of art, heavily influenced by Italy, particularly Florence.
